St Denys Church

During 2016-2017, mentoring and advisory support in developing a National Lottery Heritage Lottery Fund application was given to the Project Team at St Denys Church in Aswarby, Sleaford.

The project at St Denys Church focuses on conserving a Grade 1 listed place of worship, which is in need of urgent roof and spire repairs. Along with exploring opportunities to interpret the story of the explorer George Bass who was born in Aswarby and baptised in the church.

Lisa mentored the Project Team at St Denys with their Round 2 NLHF, Places of Worship Application. The role included supporting the team through their development phase and advising on audience research with both current and non-users.

Lisa worked with the team to develop activities for the project, which were tested via a range of consultation methods including a series of focus group sessions and a pilot project with a local primary school. The pilot project tested ways school groups could engage with the site – linking activities to the National Curriculum. The consultancy also included interpretation planning, liaising and consulting with stakeholders and writing sections of the Church’s Round Two application.
